Blog Post - Question Seven (only dirty)

Postby Jurph » Wed Mar 16, 2011 9:55 am

Googling partial subsets of the second list in today's blog post will get you some fairly NSFW results which point very unsubtly to the answer.

Secretariat could have been on the list again.
Dikembe Mutombo would make the list.
Jimmy Wang and Dick Morris don't.

In short, don't google the members of that list unless you want your boss to be giving you some cock-eyed glances.

I'm gonna guess they're uncircumcised.

I guess that makes sense for a famous baby (Prince William) or people who might have done nude scenes (Don Johnson?) but how on earth would anyone know Johnny Carson's, uh, status? Or John Dean's?

The results I was getting were not so much about the condition of the package but the size. With "lots of other Gentiles" on the list, though, I think Orange and Ken have it right.

As for how they know, well, that's what makes it gossip...!

Perhaps you were googling the FIRST list in Ken's blog post?
That would seem to make more sense for the angle you were talking about...
(and in fact, I'm sure that size (as opposed to condition) is indeed the common thread of that first list.)

The following website gives only occasional citation for said gossip, but it matches up many names on the list Ken posted. (Jim Hendrix, Don Johnson, Elvis Presley, etc)

So ... should we make this thread the official clearinghouse for trying to solve all the Spy Lists? Or should I start a new thread? I think it could be fun.

Feel free. Originally I was thinking it might be a regular feature on the blog, but I don't see how I can hold back progress.

A quasi-regular blog feature would be even better.

Okay so for the first one:

Is correct! Isaac Davis is Woody Allen's high school-robbing character in Manhattan.

I'll put this out there

Postby polarea » Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:26 am

Okay for the second one since no one else is taking a stab:

Men who are known for their extramarital fantasies? I don't think this is completely correct, but works for a few and maybe will lead in the direction of the answer.

Can people also indicate which issue we're talking about (month/year) and maybe the page number?

Edit: I didn't notice that this topic had come up again on Ken's blog.

I'm not convinced I have the answer either, but the presence of Andy Capp, Harry Helmsley, and Denis Thatcher makes me think it's something along the lines of men whose wives earn more money than them or something in that ballpark.

For the one starting with Andy Capp, I'm going with men who are married to strong women. (men who are whipped).

I thought that too, but the presence of Donald Trump and Tom Tisch makes me think it's something else.

Yeah, I think the answer is "henpecked husbands" or something along those lines. (Donald was still married to Ivana at the time.) For a while the "Andy Capp" thing made me think it was going to be something more scandalous, like wives who literally beat their husbands, but sadly I was wrong.

It is indeed. Some members of that list would need to be removed today, but Brooke Shields was actually correct at the time. Not Cliff Richard, but he was close.

My guess is that it's something like being a virgin at an atypically late age or being sexually abstinent for a large portion of one's adult life.

Yeah, I think the suggestion is that they're all virgins.

Isn't Ed Koch pretty much assumed nowadays to be gay, not asexual?

Actually, according to her, Brooke Shields was off the list by June of 1988 (as mentioned on her Wikipedia page).

...I can't believe I just looked that up.

Argh, I forgot the Spy List didn't start in 1986 when the magazine did.

Michael Jackson, however, was still unspoiled.

Only because Google's Spy archive is still missing a couple issues there.

I couldn't solve this one...no telltale fictional characters, for one thing.
