Postby nrajeff » Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:32 pm

Hi! I wanted to fax or mail a parents' permission slip for the quiz, but I couldn't find a fax# or address. Thanks for the help. :D

Huh? No parental permission slip necessary. This is Internet trivia, not gun education, NRA Jeff.

B-b-but YOU said....

But the instructions for those dumb...er, honest enough to admit to being under 13 years old command us to snail-mail or fax our kid's application for "Pemission to Participate" to you. Which is just slightly problematic when there is no address or fax number in sight. I mean, the form has a very convenient "CUT HERE" at the top and bottom, but the info on where to SEND it would also be nice and inexpensive touch, if I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion.

And my poor, huge-Jeopardy!-and Ken Jennings-fan son is now brokenhearted and disillusioned, becasue he wanted, so badly, to participate in all the fun and excitement. (Wait: "Disillusioned" is bad, and its antonym, to be "illusioned," is good, right? It doesn't sound so good, when one thinks about it.)

Anyhow, can my son just participate in the Quiz and forums and stuff without submitting the permission thing? Should he just lie, er, take politicianesque liberties with the truth when asked whether he is over 13, under 13, or exactly 13?

Thanks for the help. Sincerely, someone who needs not GUN education--been there, etc.--but Internet protocol education.

(Man, I now wince every time I think of the word "protocol," thanks its overuse in many episodes of 24.)

Oh, gotcha. The message boards probably do have a permission thingy. But anyone can sign up for the weekly trivia quiz. Just enter the appropriate email address into the box on almost any page on the site. Here, for example.

As for the message boards...I always wondered what it did when you said you were under 13. Now I know! I wouldn't worry about the form. We keep things scrupulously all-ages around here.

I can't be the only person who thought, for a minute, that nrajeff was the most erudite 12-year-old on the Internet EVER, can I?

(Even I would have used too many emoticons back then. :D )

Sorry to have been the cause of confusion, Robert. Actually, I am just the LEAST erudite ADULT here.

"N Raj F" -- I like it! "New Rajneesh Follower," perhaps.
Nah; really just plain, boring Jeff who is a Life Member of the NRA, but whose eldest son is actually a bit of a prodigy. He never misses Jeopardy, and he usually knows the correct responses to a decent percentage of the clues. He was very excited when he had a chance to attend a gala where Ken J. was the keynote speaker, and Ken was gracious enough to pose for a picture with my son, and to autograph his printed program. (BTW, Ken's remarks were the highlight of the evening; he was witty, funny, and interesting. Plus, at the end they showed a montage of Ken's appearances on the show, and it was excellent. If you get a chance to hear him on a speaking gig, don't pass it up.)
