Maybe America doesn't get it...

The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

I always get a kick out of people not getting sarcasm. Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe from "24") is the queen of sarcasm and a lot of times people think she's being serious. I've heard her say crazy things like she's dating her therapist, there's going to be nudity on 24, Rachel McAdams is playing her character in the 24 movie, she hosts a talk show in her head every Tuesday night while drunk and covered in ants and that she's dating Rush Limbaugh. She is so hillarious and a brilliant deadpan comic and she always sounds deadly serious when she's kidding around.

French fries native to Belgium? That will be news to all the scientists and Idaho potato farmers who thought it was a New World plant. Have the Belgians replaced the Soviets in claiming they invented everything?

Funny.
I guess you're not being serious, but just in case:

Potatoes are obviously a new world plant. Fries is a obviously in origin a non-American dish (just like pizza for instance).
Whether it was invented in France, Spain or Belgium is disputed but already in the 17th century it was known in Belgium.

'During the controversy over Freedom Fries, French people from around the world repeatedly clarified that the food was actually Belgian. Belgium itself also lays claim as the "origin" of French Fries. Jo Gerard, a famous Belgian historian, claims to have proof that this recipe for potatoes was already used in 1680, in the area of the Meuse valley between Dinant and Liège, Belgium. The poor inhabitants of this region had the custom of accompanying their meals with small fried fish, but when the river was frozen and they were unable to fish, they cut potatoes lengthwise and fried them in oil to accompany their meals. (Belgian Federal Portal) In 1861, a Belgian entrepreneur named Frits is said to have opened a stand selling this product. He is also said to have given it its own name, frites, which is the French name for the dish in Belgium. Even up to today every village in Belgium has several of these fries (friterie) stands selling fries as the main dish and, in case something extra is desired, a varied choice of fried meat products to go with it.'

That Rajskub woman was great in Punch Drunk Love! I'm glad to hear she's so funny in real life.

That's actually how Mary Lynn got cast on 24. The creator/producer/writer Joel Surnow saw Punch Drunk Love and he enjoyed her performance so much that he created the character Chloe for her.

There are some great MLR links on youtube including

Well, checking again, I think some of the older "Sajak Says" articles are not currently linked on the site. However, it doesn't take a tremendous amount of reading between the lines for this article.
