Another fun one: who portrayed an Oscar winner in 1999 then won an Oscar for a 2000 role. There's a bit of a trick to this one.

Thinking about 2001 winners, I'm guessing the answer might be Julia Roberts. I haven't seen Notting Hill since it came out. Was her character an Oscar-winner?

Going back to the Walter Brennan topic, on his Wikipedia page it says that part of the reason he won 3 of the first 5 Best Supporting Actor Oscars is the fact that members of the Extras Union got to vote, and he was very popular among this union. His third win was one of the reasons that extras were soon became ineligible to vote. I love this bit of trivia.

And the actresses from Amour and Beast of the Southern Wild are the oldest and youngest best actress nominees ever. I actually think Q (not going to attempt to spell her name) was five when she was cast, and six when she filmed the movie. She's nine now.

Silver Lining Playbook got nominated for the "Big Five" (picture, director, screenplay, actor, actress), a first since Million Dollar Baby in 2004.

In addition, it got nominated in all 4 acting categories, a first since Reds in 1981.

I like what Vulture had to say: Lincoln is now the clear frontrunner for Best Picture, with the alternative being Silver Linings Playbook. To quote Vulture, "Too bad Silver Linings producer Harvey Weinstein has no experience going up against a war-era Steven Spielberg film and snatching away its Best Picture win with a smaller-but-beloved dramedy that features a star-coronating Best Actress performance. Oh, wait..."
