The place to talk. "On topic"? "Off topic"? We make no such petty distinctions here.

Candidate: blondies predate brownies. (Apparently brownies only date back to industrial cocoa powder processing, while blondies go further back.)

I don't know any baking history myself and I can't think of a way to validate. I'll ask my mom to call me; one way or another I'll get an answer.

Samuel Horwitz was in the act before his brother Jerome.

Yeah, I really like that one. I didn't know enough about the history of the British invasion to know which band was formed first, but I always unthinkingly assumed it must have been the Beatles.

I also like the blondies/brownies one. I myself certainly think of blondies as a lesser imitation!

The Shemp one is pretty good too.

That's pretty good too. I didn't know Beta was earlier. And definitely, it passes the test of "people generally thought of Beta as 'lesser' or 'inferior' in some way".

The Gimbel's Thanksgiving Day parade in Philadelphia (now the 6abc IKEA Thanksgiving Day parade) and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in NYC.

(I'm Canadian so my judgement may be off, but surely Macy's is the more famous one. I had never heard of the one in Philly before this week.)

Maybe my memory is just bad, but I always thought Band Aid ("Do They Know It's Christmas?") was an imitation of (and followed) USA for Africa ("We Are The World"). I was wrong.
