Branching Out

Postby Bill » Thu Mar 17, 2016 4:06 pm

In 1968, I appeared as a guest star on a TV show playing a member of the Air Force, played a recurring character on another TV show who was a Marine private, and appeared as an enlisted man in a movie about the Navy.

But you probably know me best for a TV character I played in the 1970's... who was in the Army!

Who am I?

Heaven knows if I have this right, but does the 1968 "movie about the Navy"
Spoiler: show
have an Army guy as its main character?

Yes, and I believe that may be true of my character as well.

Neel's got it, and there doesn't seem to be much point in drawing it out. Answer below:

Spoiler: show
Before he became well known as Army chaplain Father Francis Mulcahy in M*A*S*H, William Christopher was featured in several other military roles. He played a captured Air Force officer in Hogan's Heroes, a Marine private in Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., and Private Jake Shultz in the film The Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell.
