Like Father, Like Son

Postby marpocky » Sat Aug 22, 2015 7:42 am

This reddit thread is about O'Shea Jackson, Jr's role playing his father Ice Cube in the recent biopic Straight Outta Compton. They go on to ask about other sons playing their fathers, and a few examples were mentioned. Do you know of any, or of any instances of daughters playing their mothers? Also, this comment brings up an interesting point:

The scene where Cube is writing Friday has a couple kids in the background, so O'shea Jr. is in the shot twice.

Has anyone gotten to share a scene *with themselves* in this way before?

That Reddit thread was both amazingly informative and mind-numbingly repetitive.

Yeah, the cameo-in-a-biopic-of-a-living-person is the way to go. Like when Erin Brockovich played a waitress named Julia, serving Julia Roberts in the role of Erin Brockovich. It would be slightly more interesting to see if a person qualifies for being in someone else's biopic. Like if Danny DeVito had shared a scene with someone playing Danny DeVito in Man on the Moon.

We covered similar ground in this thread. I'm aware of daughters playing younger versions of their mothers' fictional characters, but not the Compton equivalent of a daughter playing a real-life mother.

In Wild Cheryl Strayed's daughter plays her in a flashback.

Infinitely Polar Bear doesn't quite work -- the story is fictionalized-- but Maya Forbes' daughter plays the fictionalized version of her.

Also in Wild Cheryl Strayed has a cameo alongside Reese Witherspoon who plays her.
