Medical Conditions

Postby Bill » Tue Jul 29, 2014 6:56 pm

The following medical conditions can all be found within one overarching disorder:

Alopecia
Appendicitis
Graft-versus-host disease
Gymnophobia
Mental Disability
Narcolepsy
Prosopagnosia
Vertigo

If you can identify the disorder that links these conditions, can you add any other maladies to the list?

Yes, that has been observed within the larger disorder.

By way of a hint, I should say that the linking disorder is a psychological affliction.

This does not mean that the conditions listed are fake. However, there have been fake conditions observed within this disorder as well, including blindness, obesity, coma, and even death.

In case anyone is still trying to figure this out, here is one last hint.

This is a pop culture question, not a medical one. The linking theme is not actually a psychological disorder; it just shares its name with one.

That shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless you happen to have an extremely literal doctor.

Feel free to post an answer at some point. I've tried to fit Smurfs, Seinfeld, The Wiggles, Monty Python, David Lynch, and more, but none cover all of it -- nor do they share a name with a psychological disorder, as far as I know.

You wouldn't say that if you knew someone who was suffering from the Wiggles.

You're on the right track, though. I will post the answer later today.

If it's what I think it is, "gymnophobia" and "autocyanosis" were the biggest hints for me.

Is "gymnophobia" related to a certain alliterative compound word? (first word five letters, second word four letters)
